I’ve been thinking for a while that I’d like to organise a fan project for SHINee’s Kim Jonghyun’s birthday. Internationally, it's his 21st next and I’d like to send him something special from all his international fans.
So I propose a book. A book filled with fan art and letters for our dear Bling Bling Jonghyun. And a compilation of videos with messages for him.
I want to send not only a gift to celebrate his brithday, but also a gift of encouragement. I want to let him know that there are so many of us outside of Korea who appreciate and support him no matter what. You don't need to worry yourselves with organising anything like printing or putting it all together or sending it off, I'll have all of that covered.
Interested? Before I tell you how to submit, here are some
rules guidelines.
Fan art• Must be your own work—please do not submit someone else’s art and claim it as your own.
• Similarly, please do not submit someone else’s work even if you aren’t claiming it as yours—unless they have given you express permission.
• No photographs, edited or not. Unless it is an imaginative Photoshop manipulation, I will reject it. I just believe they don’t show much thought having gone into it as a gift, especially considering none of us know him personally for it to have a special meaning for him.
• Nothing including pairings (i.e. Jongkey, Jongsica, etc.)
Letters• Do not use any swear words/profanities.
• No innuendos or sexual references of any sort.
• No outright—or subtle—abuse,
especially pertaining to Shin Sekyung and/or his relationship with her. (In fact, best not to even mention her at all—their relationship may not last forever and we want this gift to be something he’ll be able to look back over for years and years to come without bringing back any possible bad memories.
*)
• No general fangirling either. (Or fanboying, whatever~)
• If not in English, please provide a translation for me so that I can check if it is appropriate (or find somebody who can).
Video message• Same basic rules apply for this as for the letters, but include no nudity, porn or anything else of a sexual nature; no violence.
• Clips must be no more than 1:00min in length.
• Be original! This is your chance to show your support in any visual way you can think of!
Remember, any of these are optional. You can submit just a piece of art, or just a letter, or just a video, or two options or all three! Also, there isn’t really a limit on the amount of fan art you can send (although, obviously if it gets a little too much I’ll have to tell you to stop now please ^^), but please only one letter and one video per person.
When you’re ready, drop me a message somewhere (
tumblr,
deviantART,
livejournal) and I’ll send you my e-mail address in a private message in return. You can then submit everything via e-mail to me. Please include your name (or a penname) and your location (just the country is fine) with your submission.
I will not reject any submission, unless it breaks any of the rules above or any obvious ones that I may have missed. If I do reject it, I will let you know. You may be able to tweak it and resubmit.
This project is not limited only to Blingers, but is open to all Shawols and fans of S.M. The Ballad too!
Deadline for submissions is March 15th, but if you can, please try to get yours in earlier. I don't want a mad tsunami of things being sent right at the very end, if we can help it.
Well that’s all I think! Phew!
So go on, go spread the news and point everyone back to this post! (Also, let’s see if we can find any male fans to get involved…)
Have fun~!
*Although I say not to mention Shin Sekyung, even in support, this project has been partly influenced by all the negative attention their relationship has received since it was made public (whether you believed it or not). This, plus his injured ankle and therefore inability to perform fully with the rest of SHINee. While Jjong has been continuously reassuring us that he is happy and always upbeat, there’s no doubt the negativity will affect him in some form, no matter how little he shows it. This project is really to lift his spirits and show him how much we all still love him, no matter what the very loud but very small minority say.
